YSR asks officials to gear up for `Kalachakra' rush

Over 1 lakh pilgrims expected to converge on the venue

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed the Guntur district administration to step up arrangements at Amaravathi to meet the increased inflow of pilgrims attending the ``Kalachakra festival."

The Chief Minister was told that the administration was geared up to meet the challenge of the last-minute rush at the venue. Guntur Collector G. Jaya Lakshmi, informed the Chief Minister that more than 1.2 lakh pilgrims were expected to converge on the last two days apart from the local visitors estimated to be around 50,000.

15 first aid centres

The Medical and Health Department had established 15 First Aid Medical Camps and 60 Doctors and 370 Para medical staff had been deputed. In all 16 ambulances were at their disposal for meeting medical emergencies. So far, some 15,000 pilgrims had availed medicare in the camps.

The Panchyat Raj and Rural Water Supply Department had constructed 3,877 toilets. Three overhead reservoirs had been additionally supplying 3 lakh litres. The CMO was informed that the existing 5 overhead reservoirs were already supplying 5 lakh liters of water daily. Taps supplying both drinking water and raw water had been provided at all the accommodation centres.

The Power Distribution Corporation had ensured uninterrupted power supply by installing 39 transformers.

Tight security

Ms. Jaya Lakshmi added that the Police Department had taken all measures for the smooth conduct of the event. The entire area divided into 15 sectors while 4 of these were being treated as high- density areas needing greater attention. Two Superintendents of Police, 12 deputy superintendents, 180 circle inspectors, 300 sub-inspectors and 4000 police personnel had been deployed.

The Chief Minister directed the administration to ensure sufficient supply of LPG cylinders and kerosene.
