CHANDIGARH .The Haryana Governor, A.R. Kidwai, on Friday announced that the State Government had appointed a Lok Ayukta to act as a watchdog of public interest and the vigilance mechanism had been strengthened to check corrupt practices. Delivering the customary address at the beginning of the first session of the current year in the Vidhan Sabha, Dr.Kidwai said the Government had launched a frontal attack on corruption which was a root cause of misgovernance in the previous regime. The Government would ensure the implementation of Right to Information Act, 2005 in right earnest to bring transparency and accountability in administration. Dr.Kidwai asserted that the Government was committed to the resolution passed in the last session seeking the establishment of a separate High Court at Chandigarh for the State. All attempts would be made to convince the Central Government to accede to this genuine demand. The Government proposed to chart `Vision 2020' for development and good governance to guide the State on the path of prosperity and sustainable development. The size of the annual plan had been increased to Rs. 3,000 crores, an increase of 42 per cent over the last year's plan size. Dr.Kidwai asserted that the Haryana Government was determined to realize State's full share of Ravi-Beas waters through the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal at the earliest. Dr. Kidwai said that a comprehensive master plan was being prepared to control floods in the chronically flood affected areas in the districts of Rohtak, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Hissar. He reiterated that the Government had embarked upon an ambitious plan to add over 4,000 MW of power generation capacity through public as well as private sector to bridge gap between demand and supply. While reiterating the commitment of the Government to improve infrastructure in the State, he said that Metro Rail Link Project from Delhi to Gurgaon was being vigorously pursued with the Central Government and the Government of NCT Delhi.
