CD submitted in graft case

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An audio compact disc (CD), said to be containing a recording of Minister for Health K.K. Ramachandran allegedly persuading a witness to change his statement before the Lok Ayukta, was submitted to the Lok Ayukta Registrar on Friday for safe custody.

The CD was submitted by N. Viswambharan, petitioner in the corruption case against the Minister's office, through his advocate, Cherunniyoor Sasidharan Nair. The call was allegedly made from the Minister's cellphone number, 94470-33669, to Wayanad District Medical Officer (DMO) N.R. Ravi.

The petitioner filed an affidavit alleging that Mr. Ramachandran Nair had tried to pressure the DMO to change the statement he had earlier made before the Lok Ayukta. He urged the forum to record Dr. Ravi's statement urgently. The petitioner further alleged that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had committed contempt of court by intervening in the inquiry process initiated by the Lok Ayukta into the corruption charges against the Minister's office.
