THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: R. Sudhakaran, Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court IV, on Friday, sentenced a 43-year-old man to life and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on him, as he was found guilty of murdering his relative in February 2000. The prosecution case was that Mohanan, of Kottakkakam Muriyil, Aryanad, stabbed to death the husband of his wife's sister at Chappath Junction for not lending him money. S.K. Ashok Kumar, Public Prosecutor, appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
Rigorous imprisonment
Immanuel P. Kolladi, Sessions Judge, Fast Track Court II, on Friday, sentenced three persons to rigorous imprisonment for four years and imposed a fine of Rs. 2 lakhs on them, as they were found guilty of possessing seven bottles of arrack in March 2001. In case of default of payment, they will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one more year. The prosecution case was that Shaji, 39, alias `Vedan' Shaji, Sunil, 24, and Manoj, 29, all of Kolachira colony at Azhoor, were arrested at Kolachira based on a tip-off. The police had also recovered some utensils used for brewing arrack by the accused. Vattappara Sajan Prasad, Public Prosecutor, appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
