Opening a corridor of hope for job-seekers

Firms on hiring binge;The HinduOpportunities Fair 2006 concludes

HYDERABAD: For many it has opened up a corridor of hope and for those with appointment letters, the concluding day of The Hindu Opportunities Fair 2006 was the stuff straight from the dreams. "Mummy, tell Daddy I have got a job," cried an overjoyed A. Prathyusha on the mobile. A B.Tech final year student from Mahbubnagar, she finds herself very lucky to have cracked her first job test and interview that too in her first job fair.

And she is not alone. It was not only Yunus Khan who scored a century in the India Pakistan match; Cognizant too hit the 100 mark on recruitment. "We have taken 100 experienced people in total," said a Cognizant official.

Slash Support also made close to 15 offers. The mood in other job kiosks was buoyant too. The final tally reads something like this. Perot Systems short-listed 550 for round two, ABB carried out 70 interviews with five shortlists, Patni finalised 40 for next round, 24X7 Customer, 50, ICICI Prulife, 106 along with 90 still taking the interviews. Accenture carried out interviews for 50-60 Java candidates to shortlist five.

Aptitude test

Around 2,000 students of the Jawahar Knowledge Centres took an aptitude test, the top scores from which will be sent to participant companies. While for experienced candidates it was a field day, first timers like Sravankumar from Dr. Paul Raj Engineering college, Bhadrachalam found the aptitude test an eye opener and Navya V. another fresher, felt the heat of competition. While organisers have gone back with a good catch, some HR managers spelt out that there was no need for candidates to exaggerate their resumes with skills they did not possess.
