This Day That Age
The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Bhimsen Sachar, has resigned from the leadership of the Punjab Congress Legislature Party. His request to be relieved of the leadership was accepted on January 14 by the Central Parliamentary Board of the Congress. The meeting of the Board was attended by its five members, Mr. U.N. Dhebar, Mr. Nehru, Maulana Azad, Pandit Pant and Mr. Jagjivan Ram. Mr. Sachar and Sardar Pratap Singh Kairon, Development Minister of Punjab, were also present. Mr. Sachar told pressmen later that he had handed over his resignation from Chief Ministership to the Governor a week ago. He did not propose to continue in the Punjab Cabinet. The Punjab Congress Legislature Party is meeting at Chandigarh on January 21 and is likely to elect Sardar Pratap Singh Kairon as the new leader.
