This Day That Age
Mr. Dudley Senanayake, former Prime Minister of Ceylon, has decided to resign from the United National Party (ruling party) and to quit politics. He told pressmen in Colombo on January 13 that he would be sending his letter of resignation to the Prime Minister, Sir John Kotelawala. Mr. Senanayake became the Prime Minister in June 1952, soon after the death of his father, Sir Stephen Senanayake. But he resigned in July 1953, following an island-wide hartal in protest against the Government decision to raise the price of ration rice.
