Puja S. Navin
If you thought a professional degree, a B.Tech, an M.B.A were a passport to a job, think again. Yes, there are many applicants. But are they skilled enough? Are they industry-ready? This is the most talked about issue at every job fair, every placement seminar and even at various campus interviews.
Right skills
It is not just loads of theory, but skills of application, ability to analyse and take initiative that are of much value. One has to be a self-starter and work with an entrepreneurial zeal. So when the industry talks about the gap between the available skills and their expectations, this is what they mean. It is for the students to demand adequate attention for soft skills. They must ensure that guest lectures are arranged. That apart, there are some finishing schools too where students can build up the requisite skills.
