NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand made a winning start to his campaign for a record fifth title in the Corus chess championship after coming up with a series of sacrifices against the World's youngest Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin at Wijk aan Zee, near Amsterdam on Saturday.
Humpy draws
In the Grandmaster `B' played concurrently, Koneru Humpy played black and drew creditably with Alexander Beliavsky in 60 moves. She plays Topalov's training partner Ivan Cheparinov in the second round. The results (first round): Loek van Wely (Ned) drew with Ivan Sokolov (Ned); Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze) drew with Etienne Bacrot (Fra); Sergey Tiviakov (Ned) drew with Michael Adams (Eng); Veselin Topalov bt Gata Kamsky (USA); Boris Gelfand (Isr) drew with Peter Leko (Hun); Sergey Karjakin (Ukr) lost to V. Anand (Ind); Levon Aronian (Arm) lost to Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr).
