Letters to the Editor
Views have been expressed in these columns on women being portrayed as evil in television serials. Well, villainy itself is the hero in most serials. Crafty and determined villains, men and women, exploit their prey who do not seem to do anything to protect themselves. This goes on and on for 599 episodes, with some chance-based resolution in the last episode. If this is supposed to reflect society, we are really living in very bad times. Perhaps the kind of virtuous heroes who used to overcome villainy are no longer there. People also seem to have lost their sense of humour. That it is much easier to write a script for villains than to extol higher values or create humour is another thing. The danger lies in villains becoming role-models as they are portrayed in a very glamorous manner in serials.
