HUBLI: Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajashekharan has said that mutts play a vital role in protecting and preserving Indian religion and culture. Speaking at a function organised here on Saturday as part of "Janma Swarna Mahotsav" and "Pattadhikara Rajatha Mahotsav" of Sri Umapathi Panditaradhya Swamiji of Shreeshaila Peetha, he said: "Indians are known for their accommodative spirit and it is because of this that they are respected through out the world. Indian culture gives importance to human values and the credit for this should go to the mutts." Releasing a souvenir brought out on the occasion, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda said: "I am not an authority to comment on `dharma' or `adharma' as it may end up in a controversy. But I believe that a person can succeed only when his/her efforts are complemented by the blessings of Gods and pontiffs." Pralhad Joshi, MP, said that apart from promoting mental and social peace, religion plays a pivotal role in helping the youth choose the right path. Veerashaiva mutts have contributed immensely for the development of education in the State, Vijay Sankeshwar, former MP, said.
Awareness
Veerasomeshwara swamiji of Rambhapuri Peetha called upon religious centres to create awareness among people to thwart conflicts based on caste and religion. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Basavaraj S. Horatti, Shivananda Shivacharya swamiji, Chandrashekhar Shivacharya swamiji, Rajshekhar swamiji, Sadyojyota Shivacharya swamiji, Malulasiddha Shivacharya swamiji, and Mallikarjun Konnur, MP, were present on the occasion.
