Lahoti to deliver convocation address at Mysore university

Honoris Causa degrees for Madhavan Nair, Ghorpade


  • 14,731 candidates from seven faculties to be given degrees
  • 165 candidates to receive Ph.D. degrees in five disciplines
  • Medals and prizes to be given to 185 candidates

    MYSORE: The 86th annual convocation of the University of Mysore will be held at the Crawford Hall here on Monday during which 14,731 candidates from seven faculties will be honoured with degrees. R.C. Lahoti, former Chief Justice of India, will deliver the convocation address.

    Addressing presspersons on Sunday, Vice-Chancellor of the university J. Shashidhar Prasad said that ISRO Chairman G. Madhavan Nair (science), former Minister M.Y. Ghorpade (rural development and panchayat raj) and writer Lakshmi Devi Kadidal (literature) will be honoured with Honoris Causa degree. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi will preside over the function. Minister for Higher Education D. Manjunath will participate in the function.

    Of the 14,731 candidates, 7,465 are women. A total of 165 candidates will receive Ph.D. degrees in five faculties of whom 60 are women. Medals and prizes will be given to 185 candidates of whom 112 are women.

    He said 1,789 candidates will receive master's degrees of whom 821 are women, 12,777 will receive bachelor's degrees of whom 6,584 are women. Twelve Ph.D. degrees will be given in Biochemistry, 11 in Biotechnology, 10 in Chemistry, six each in Geology, Zoology and Physics, 12 in Kannada, nine in Economics and nine in History.

    The following is the list of winners of medals and prizes: Vijay (M.A. Kannada) has won seven medals and two prizes. H.P. Prema Kumar (M.A. Jainology) has won seven medals. S.S. Lakshmi (M.A. Economics) has won six medals and two prizes. V.S. Rangeetha (M.A. History) has won four medals and one prize. Kabir Kiran (M.A. Economics) has won four medals. R. Rajeev Mohan (Journalism) has won four medals. William Odeke Owire (M.A. Philosophy) has won three medals and three prizes. Vinay Lamba (MFABM) has won four medals. Parameshwara Kannimane of University Evening College has won three medals and one cash prize in B.A. K.S. Shyla of University College of Fine Arts has won three medals and three prizes in BFA. H.C. Pallavi of University College of Fine Arts has won three medals and two prizes in BFA. M. Pracheta of SBRR Mahajana College, Mysore, has won two medals and four prizes in B. Com. H.G. Lakshmi of Hoysaleshwara College, Arasikere, has won two medals and two prizes in B. Com. A.K. Shwetha of Nisarga College, Kollegal, has won two medals and one prize in B.B.M. S. Vanishree has won four medals in M.Ed. Sree Kumar has won two medals and three prizes in L.L.M. R. Shantha Mallesh of JSS Law College has won four medals and two prizes in L.L.B.

    D. Geetha has won seven medals and two prizes in M.Sc. (Chemistry). F.M. Shashikala has won four medals and three prizes in M.Sc. (Botany). B.V. Ashwini has won four medals and two prizes in M.Sc. (Mathematics). N.V. Aparna has won four medals and two prizes in M.Sc. (Physics). Deepa Rani Paul has won four medals and one prize in M.Sc.(Environmental Science). Y. Sriranjani has won four medals and one prize in M.Sc. (Environmental Science). Monica Sharma has won four medals and one prize on M.Li.Sc. H.V. Yathish has won five medals and six prizes in B.Sc.
