Dharmapuri: The State Government has spent Rs. 9.33 crores to conduct 24,247 veterinary camps in Tamil Nadu. Of this, 121 camps were held in eight blocks in Dharmapuri district benefiting 1,54,879 livestock, said the Minister for Information and Publicity and Local Administration, K.P. Anbazhagan at a function here on Saturday.
Vaccine doses
In an effort aimed at preventing foot and mouth disease in cattle, the Department of Animal Husbandry had supplied 45,000 vaccine doses to farmers in Dharmapuri. Along with this, Special Veterinary Awareness Camps would be held in all the eight blocks shortly. Mr. Anbazhagan said that 316 veterinary centres were upgraded into dispensaries in the State. In addition, 234 new dispensaries were opened in the State in 2005. Under the Livestock Development Scheme, training was given to 1,47, 990 farmers in 6,473 village panchayats. A sum of Rs. 178.10 crores was allotted for breeding livestock and milk production. The daily procurement of milk was 24 lakh litres a day, he added. District Revenue Officer C. Natarajan was present.
