BHUBANESWAR: With the people displaced by various projects making demands for adequate compensation in the wake of the Kalinga Nagar firing, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to resolve the problems of those affected by Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd. Mr. Patnaik wrote to the Centre on Saturday in the face of an ultimatum from the people displaced by MCL that they would launch an economic blockade from January 16. The MCL has coalmines at Talcher in Angul district and Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district. Many people displaced by MCL projects were waiting for compensation for over 25 years, Mr. Patnaik said.
