TKR Engg College wins

HYDERABAD: TKR Engineering College, Hyderabad, recorded an 18-run win over Vidya Jyothi College, Hyderabad, in the final of the fourth SR Champions Cup inter-engineering colleges cricket tournament at Warangal on Sunday, according to information received here.

Special prizes were given to D. Aditya of Vidya Jyothi College (man of the series), M. Sravan of TRK College (player of the final), Chakravarthi of Vidya Jyothi (best all-rounder), Santosh of TRK College (best bowler), Swaraj of Thirumal College (best batsman) and Kalyan of TKR College (highest scorer of the tournament).

The scores: TKR Engg College, Hyderabad, 153 for six in 20 overs (Vijay Bhaskar 48) bt Vidya Jyothi College, Hyderabad, 135 for nine.

Bolarum wins title

Bolarum scored a hard-fought, 4-3 win via sudden death against Valluvarnagar in the final of the N. Sudhakar memorial (under-16) football tournament, organised by Shastri Soccer Club, at TrimulgherryVillage Grounds here.

The teams were locked goalless at the end of regulation time and three-all in the tiebreaker with Rakesh, Sai Charan and Tirupathi being the scorers for Bolarum while Chandran, Pramod and Satti scored for the rival. In sudden death, Irfan was on target for Bolarum while Srikanth missed.

Olympian D. Kannan gave away the prizes. In a touching gesture, the organisers felicitated the ailing Olympian and also presented a purse of Rs. 2,000.

Vikram Reddy bags title

B. Vikram Reddy defeated V. Sudarhan 6-2, 6-2 in the boys' under-16 final of the Lanco-JHIC all-India ranking national series tennis tournament for boys and girls at Jubilee Hills International Centre here on Sunday.

Sushrutha Reddy lifted the girls' title defeating T. Nilaya 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in the final.

The results (finals): under-16: Boys: B. Vikram Reddy bt V. Sudarshan 6-2, 6-2.

Girls: Sushrutha Reddy bt T. Nilaya 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Semifinals: T. Nilaya bt Prachi Nadkarni 7-5, 6-3; Sushrutha Reddy bt Unnati Purushotham 6-0 (conceded).

Doubles: Prachi Nadkarni & Tanvi Shah bt Shivani Singh & Aishwarya Agarwal 6-3, 6-3. — Sports Reporter

CASC triumphs

Cantonment Area Sports Club scored a 2-0 win against Republic Boys in the B-Division hockey league championship at Gymkhana Grounds. Hajura Singh struck in the 15th minute and C.V. Vivek the second goal in the 50th minute.

In another match, MCH (Chintalbasthi) outplayed MCH (Khilawat) 6-3 after leading 1-0 at the break. Sunil Singh struck four times and Mahender twice for the winner while, M.S. Moid, Md Mahmood and Abdul Samad reduced the margin for the loser.

Netball nationals

The Andhra Pradesh Netball Association, as part of it's silver jubilee celebrations, will organise the senior National championship at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium (Vijayawada) from January 28 to February 1, according to S. Someshwar Rao, secretary APNA. The championship will be on league-cum-knockout basis.

The team for the fifth Asian youth girls' championship in Bangalore from July 24 to 30 will be selected on the basis of performances at this meet.

Teams from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Maldives, Hong Kong, Japan, China and Korea besides the host will be participating in the Asian championships.

Someshwar said that the first camp for the Indian team would be in Raipur from February 6 to 20, second one in Uttaranchal from May 15 to June 6 and the final one in Bangalore from July 1.

FCI inter-zonal

football

The 35th FCI inter-zonal football tournament will be organised at Lal Bahadur Stadium here from January 16 to 20, according to Mr. A.S. Chabra, executive director (south zone) FCI.

Six zones would vie for top honours. The teams have been split into two groups with the top two qualifying for the knockout phase.

Inter-club tennis
