Speaker issues notice to House Secretary

Staff Reporter

T. Rajanna has not responded to notices issued by an Additional Secretary

BANGALORE: With only three days to go for the session of the Legislative Assembly to commence, Speaker Krishna has issued a notice to the Assembly Secretary T. Rajanna seeking his reply to certain allegations against him.

Mr. Rajanna has been under a cloud after allegations against him were levelled and now he is required to reply to the Speaker's notice on or before January 18, the day the session commences.

It has become necessary for the Speaker to issue the notice as Mr. Rajanna as he has repeatedly refused to respond to earlier notices issued by an Additional Secretary S.B. Patil seeking a response to these allegations, on instructions from the Speaker, saying that he was a subordinate of his. In his counter allegations, Mr. Rajanna has consistently maintained that his colleagues and subordinates are subjecting him to mental harassment. Mr. Krishna has already appointed three inquiry officers to investigate the charges.

The notice issued by the Speaker has asked Mr. Rajanna to furnish documents or information that disprove the charges against him, and has warned of action against Mr. Rajanna if he fails to respond before the January 18 deadline.

The officials of the Legislative Assembly Secretariat are a divided lot with one group supporting Mr. Rajanna and the other stoutly opposed to him. All is not well even in the Legislative Council secretariat. Besides serving the notice on Mr. Rajanna, the notice served on him has been displayed on the notice board in the first floor of the Vidhana Soudha where the Assembly and Council secretariat are located.
