KADAPA: Farmers can offset loss in agriculture by taking up dairy farming and cattle-rearing in addition to agriculture, Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande said on Sunday. Speaking at an award-presentation to best farmers, Mr. Dande exhorted farmers to adopt modern farming practices and achieve high yields with low investment. They could raise low-cost castor, jowar and sajja crops for high yields, he suggested. Inter-cropping, agro-processing and cleansing of seeds and use of qualitative fertilisers and pesticides would benefit ryots, he said.
Tenders called
Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was keen on diversion of Krishna water to Rayalaseema districts. Tenders worth Rs. 35,000 crores were called for pending irrigations projects with a view to completing them soon, he said. Joint Director of Agriculture M. Rajeswar lauded award-winning farmers and urged them to follow agricultural scientists. Cash prizes and appreciation certificates were given away to the farmers.
