HUNT IS ON: TTD priests and officials taking part in a `mock hunting' as part of the annual "Parveta" festival at Tirumala on the occasion of Sankranti on Sunday. It is believed that the Lord goes out for hunting on this special occasion
TIRUMALA: Tirumala on Sunday witnessed a series of special religious programmes in connection with Makara Sankranthi Parveta Utsavam and Sri Goda Parinaya Utsavam. The processional deity of Lord Venkateswara, dressed up in a traditional `King Hunter' garb and equipped with celestial ayudhas like Sankham, Chakram, Gada, Bana and Khadgam was ceremoniously carried to the Parveta Mandapam situated about 2 kilometres amidst the Tirumala forests along with the temple paraphernalia. After the customary rituals the deity, mounted atop the Golden Tiruchi, symbolically "hunted" a couple of deer tied to a nearby bush with the temple priest heading the ceremony carrying a golden spear. Thousands of devotees witnessed the ceremonious hunting safari of the Lord. The `Parveta Utsavam' concluded in the evening with the observance of the Pranaya Kalaha utsavam at the northeast corner of the HIll temple.
