Rajahmundry: Sanskrit scholar and astrologer Madhura Krishnamurthy Sastry was felicitated here by various cultural, social and literary organisations. He won the President's award for excellence in Sanskrit recently in Delhi. Minister for Roads & Buildings J. Ramamohana Rao said that the historic city of Rajahmundry had got recognition because of scholars like Mr. Sastry as he had won laurels for the city because of his works in Sanskrit and astrology. Forest Conservator M. Ramprasad in his keynote address explained the relevance between astrology and science and its application in the present situation. He said that India had rich mythology, Veda Sastra and history and the western scholars had recognised the importance of these and now the Indians were slowly turning towards the past.
`Emulate Sastry'
Oriental College Principal and Reception committee member Viswanatha Gopala Krishna and Andhra Kesari Youth Association founder, historian Yatagiri Srirama Narasimharao said that the younger generation should emulate Mr Madhura Krishnamurthy Sastry to do research on Vedas, astrology and other topics. Expressing his gratitude for the felicitation, Mr Krishnamurthy Sastry said that he had done 50 years of research on astrology, calendars and Sanskrit.
