Kakinada: East Godavari Collector Anil Kumar Singhal said that more credit flow to farm sector was in the offing and as against Rs. 900 crores target for the kharif and rabi already Rs. 910 crores loans were extended to the ryots in the district. Addressing a function organised by the Department of Agriculture to present awards to the best farmers at the Krishi Bhavan here on Sunday, he said another Rs. 89 crores would be provided as credit to the ryots during rabi. Stressing the need for achieving higher productivity making optimum use of the available water resources, he said, ryots should make best use of the research to increase the production. He said efforts were being made to release water to one-lakh acres from Pushkara ayacut during next kharif. In order to derive maximum benefit from the available resources, he suggested the ryots to go for agriculture and allied activities.
Buffaloes from Haryana
In order to help womenfolk to strive for their empowerment, the Collector said the Women self-help groups were now linked to income generating activity such as dairying, and supplying them with high yielding Murrah buffaloes from Haryana. He said already 550 Haryana buffaloes were supplied and the target of supplying 10,000 buffaloes would be achieved within few months. Since some of the areas are not covered under rabi cultivation, Mr. Singhal said the members of the Rythu Mithra Groups in those areas were being encouraged to take up dairying on the lines of SHGs. Mutha Gopalakrishna MLA, who presided, has suggested regular interaction between the officials of the Agricultural Department and progressive ryots to exchange the ideas and implement new techniques to achieve higher yields on the farm front. Mallipudi Mangapati Pallam Raju, MP, said that coordination between the Agricultural Departments, ryots and the elected peoples representatives would go a long way in solving the problems of ryots. Vanga Geeta Viswanath, Member Rajya Sabha, said major thrust should be given to supply quality seeds, fertilizers and pesticides to enable the ryots to achieve higher production. B.
