ERODE: In Erode district, 14.92 lakh dhotis and saris would be distributed through ration shops, said the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, P. C. Ramasamy here on Saturday. He was inaugurating its distribution at Avalpoondurai village. He said 7.46 lakh saris and 7.46 lakh dhotis would be given to eligible persons. Mr. Ramasamy said the Uzhavar Padukappu Thittam was functioning efficiently and the Government was providing funds for marriages for the poor. He said the Government was concentrating on the rural development. The Erode District Collector, D. Karthikeyan, presided. He said saris and dhotis would be distributed through ration shops on the dates announced by the officials. He said in Erode 8.06 lakh family cards were provided with all ration articles. He asked the public not to panic and assured them that all the eligible persons will get the saris and dhotis. Mr. Ramasamy laid the foundation stone for the constriction of an overhead water tank at Suriampalayam, which is to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 5.72 lakhs. MLAs K. S. Thennarasu and K. S. Palanisamy participated.
