Attack on pastor, Christians: 12 held
Four accused -- Donthula Ravi, Syed Imran, Chiluka Kishan and Are Narender -- were arrested by I town police for alleged attack on a pastor. Eight others -- Kadere Mohan Reddy, Chakali Purushottam, Mangali Srikumar, Ode Sekhar, Bothe Krishnamohan, Kadere Srinivas, Pujari Kailash and Bodakunti Naresh -- were nabbed in connection with attack on Christians. - Staff Reporter
Haj stampede: one more from State dies
The Andhra Pradesh State Haj Committee gave the victim's name as Meraj Begum, 40, wife of Syed Aziz Hussain, a resident of Gandhi Nagar. In another incident, another pilgrim from Rayachoti, Kadapa, Shaik Habeebullah Basha, 34, died of cardiac arrest at Mecca. - Special Correspondent
Row over water release ends
Following closure of construction vent in the KC canal barrage a fortnight ago, the flow into the river was curtailed causing shortage of water to the downstream people. Farmers from half a dozen villages in Mahabubnagar district represented the matter to Kurnool MP Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy on Saturday seeking his intervention for water release. Farmers' leaders discussed the matter with the MP and officials, who finally resolved to release water into the river to support the crop till March-end.
Central staff plans indefinite strike
Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers vice-president T. Narasimhan said in a press note on Sunday that a decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held in New Delhi. - Special Correspondent
Security beefed up at police stations
According to reports, the police received information that extremists are likely to blast Chalama railway station and attack on Rudravaram and Mahanandi police station was also feared. Following this heavy force was deployed at the three police stations. - Staff Reporter
