Amount needed for implementation will be released by Centre, says Minister

  • Rs.1,500 crore project for providing drinking water to fluoride-affected villages in Guntur district
  • Committee formed to look into the issue of Statehood to Telangana

AMARAVATHI (GUNTUR DT.): The Government will guarantee employment for a minimum of 100 days, in 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh from February 2, according to Union Minister of State for Rural Development (Independent Charge) Raghuvansh Prasad Singh.

The Employment Guarantee Scheme had become an Act now and through this, money equivalent of daily wages lost would be paid to those below poverty line if the Government fails to provide job for 100 days, he said at a press conference here on Sunday.

    Proposal submitted

"There is no budget constraint and the entire amount needed for the implementation of the scheme would be released by the Centre," he added. The Government was trying to provide flood and drought proofing of rural areas by providing drinking water supply to all villages.

As part of that, Rs.1,500 crore project would be launched in Guntur district to provide drinking water to some fluoride-affected villages through a pipeline from Nagarjuna Sagar Project to Inavolu village near Mangalagiri. A proposal was submitted by the Teanli MP Vallabhaneni Balashouri, he said.

On the formation of Telangana State, he said that there were diverse views on the issue and a committee was therefore formed to go into the issue, he said. There was, however, no dispute over the need for developing the region in all aspects, he observed.
