ANANTAPUR: A police head constable working in Gorantla police station in the district, K. Narayana Murthy,42, died under suspicious circumstances in the police station on Saturday. He died due to two bullets piercing through his head. While the Additional SP of Dharmavaram Akun Sabharwal said that he died due to misfiring of an SLR (self-loading rifle) when he was cleaning the weapon, the kin of the victim alleged that Murthy had committed suicide due to the harassment of his higher-ups. The incident occurred when he was on guard duty of the police station on its rooftop, as the police station is in the naxal-infested area. The head constable was learnt to have applied for leave on the occasion of Sankranti, which he wished to celebrate with family members, particularly with his daughter, who was mentally ill. The head constable was transferred to Gorantla from N.P.Kunta about 45 days back.
