P.K. Rajan cremated

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cremation of the former Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University P.K. Rajan, 59, who died after getting trapped between a moving train and the platform on Saturday morning at Ottappalam Railway Station, was held at the Thycaud crematorium on Sunday morning.

Our Palakkad Staff Reporter writes:

P.K. Rajan was travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Ottappalam on Amritha Express. According to the police, the train reached Ottappalam at 6.50 a.m., and he jumped out of the moving train on the opposite side and got trapped between the coaches and the platform.

He was on his way to Cherpulassery, near Ottapalam, to inaugurate the Palakkad district conference of the Kerala State Teachers' Association, whose representatives were waiting at the station to receive him.

The tragedy occurred just near the cabin room of the Station Manager, who, immediately, gave the signal for the train to stop.

He was rushed to Ottapalam Taluk Hospital and a private hospital. Since he was in a critical condition, it was decided to take him to a hospital in Thrissur, but he died on the way.
