ERODE: The State Government has sanctioned Rs. 25 crores for the construction of 10,000 temples in Adi-Dravidar colonies this year and the work would be completed as scheduled, said the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, P. C. Ramasamy, on Saturday. He was inaugurating the Annadhana Thittam in the Pushpaneswar Dhamodhara Perumal temple at Avalpoondurai and Ponkaliamman Temple at Sivagiri. The Minister said last year Rs. 15 crores were spent on 6,000 temples in Adi-Dravidar colonies. Regarding the Annadhana Thittam, the Minister said already the scheme was introduced in 180 temples. From Pongal Day, it had been extended to 180 more temples, he added. The Government had collected Rs. 7.20 crores from affluent temples and granted the same to temples where the revenue was very low. Mr. Ramasamy said that temple renovations and Kumbabishagams were performed in 4,300 temples in Tamil Nadu in four years and renovations would be made in more temples.
