Mayawati turns 50, book released

Announces formation of a trust for poor

New Delhi: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati turned 50 on Sunday and was greeted by party leaders and workers from across the country.

Party MPs, MLAs and workers thronged Ms. Mayawati's residence at Humayun Road here and greeted her with sweets and flowers in the presence of party founder Kanshi Ram.

Mr. Ram offered the customary cake to Ms. Mayawati on her birthday.

Mr. Kanshi Ram also released two volumes of a book "Mere Sangharshmay Jeevan yewam Bahujan Movement ka Safarnama" written by Ms. Mayawati.

The two volumes comprise 2,200 pages in which Ms. Mayawati had narrated her political struggle along with the movement for empowerment of Bahujan Samaj, party sources told PTI.

Later, the BSP chief announced formation of Bahujan Prerna Trust for the downtrodden. Festivities marked the occasion with party workers singing songs in praise of Ms. Mayawati and the party founder. — PTI
