GUNAGUL (Ranga Reddy dist.): A foundation stone laid by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy last January in this village for a Central Protected Water Supply (CPWS) scheme costing some Rs. 40 crores has given the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party leaders a chance to take pot shots at each other on the fate of the project. On Sunday, Congress leaders led by Mines and Geology Minister P. Sabita Reddy, Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and Government Whip D. Sridhar Babu besides three other party MLAs, performed cleansing ceremony at the same spot, about 40 km from the city. Amid chanting of Vedic hymns by priests, the Congress team poured several pots of milk on the stone to drive home the message that its sanctity had been lost because of the action of the TDP leaders. On January 13, a delegation of TDP leaders led by former Home Minister T. Devender Goud had observed the first anniversary of non-completion of the project. Mr. Goud had alleged that the Government did not bother to ground the project and accused Dr. Reddy of failing to honour his promise made during Rajiv Palle Baata programme. Later addressing a meeting, the Congress leaders lashed out at the TDP. They pointed out that the CPWS scheme works were grounded a few months ago and so far Rs. 14 crores had been spent.
