Nepali man found murdered in his room

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old Nepali man was found murdered in his room on Tiruvalluvar Salai in Teynampet. Shyam Bahadur Gurung, who worked as a watchman, was allegedly murdered by his roommate, Abu Pasomatri, 25, of Assam.

Shyam, Abu and four others who shared the room on Tiruvalluvar Salai, are from Nepal and Assam. On Saturday night, the deceased and Abu were alone in the room while the rest had gone to work. The murder was noticed by one of the roommates who returned on Sunday morning. He found the door open and a briefcase broken open.

Teynampet police said Rs. 58,000 in cash was missing. Detectives are interrogating the roommates. Abu is absconding.

Killed in brawl

Two men, both aged 24, were remanded to 15 days' judicial custody for the murder of a 36-year-old Kottesu alias Kotteswaran.

According to Pallikaranai police, Jayarao and Ezhumalai, murdered Kotteswaran in a drunken brawl at Veerabhadra Nagar near Pallikaranai on Wednesday night. The police said the accused had murdered Kotteswaran for allegedly misbehaving with Jayarao's mother, a sanitary worker in Perumbakkam panchayat. Kotteswaran was also a sanitary worker in the same panchayat.

A special team, comprising the Assistant Commissioner, Madipakkam and inspector, Pallikaranai, made the arrest. The police also seized the weapon used by them. A case has been registered.

Found dead

In Tambaram, a 34-year-old man was found dead inside a van at Pallavaram on Saturday night.

Police said Selvaraj of Kumbakonam owned a van, which he operated as a maxi cab shuttling employees of private companies in Pallavaram area and to transport people late in the night on the Grand Southern Trunk Road.

He was to pick up a group of employees to drop them at a factory on Saturday evening, but did not turn up. Employees who went in search of him noticed him lying motionless inside the van. Police came to the spot and removed the body. They said the victim had slept inside the vehicle on Friday.
