Open school to have more study centres

The aim is to implement grading system more effectively

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The governing body of the State Council of Educational Research and Training decided here on Friday to increase the number of study centres of the State Open School to implement the grading system more effectively.

At a meeting, the body also decided to increase various allowances of the open school staff.

Principals of higher secondary schools selected as open school centres will now get an allowance of Rs.2,500 each, instead of the current Rs. 1,500. Peons and sweepers will get Rs.500 in place of Rs.300.

The centres will get Rs.25 a student annually as allowance for maintenance of computers and Rs.300 for preparation of laboratories.

Principals of higher secondary schools selected for conduct of computer science and computer application classes for Plus One regular students will get an annual allowance of Rs.1,000.

From now, remuneration for evaluating answer scripts of open-school examinations will be Rs.2.50 each as against Rs.1.50 now. Evaluation of projects and assignments for each subject too will fetch Rs.2.50.

A two-day orientation workshop will be held in 800 centres to introduce the curriculum to private students of the open school. The council is now training principals of higher secondary schools for this purpose, a press note said.
