HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday extended support to the agitation launched by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) demanding categorisation of Scheduled Castes. At a meeting to express solidarity with MRPS, party President N. Indrasena Reddy demanded that the Government allow the Samithi to hold a public meeting here on January 21, coinciding with the AICC plenary. S. Jagadish, president, Lok Janaskathi Party, D.Veeraiah, MRPS president, K.R.Choudhary, convener, SC Categorisation Agitation Solidarity Committee, Govardhan of the CPI (ML-New Democracy), Manda Krishna Madiga, MRPS founder, were among those addressed the meeting. Meanwhile, several organisations - SC Categorisation Agitation Solidarity Committee, Andhra Pradesh Chaitanya Mahila Samakya have appealed to Government to permit MRPS to hold its meeting. In another development, the Andhra Pradesh Dalit Satta announced a "Chalo Hyderabad" rally by `malas' on January 21 to press its demand for ending attempts at the Centre to effect SC categorisation. J. Prabhakara Rao, president, Mala Mahanadu, meanwhile, demanded implementation of areawise "special development projects" to pave the way for the uplift of dalits in the State.
