HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party's Ranga Reddy district unit has opposed the ban order issued by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) on all developmental activities within 1-km belt on either side of Outer Ring Road (ORR). Its president S. Malla Reddy on Sunday pointed out that farmers and owners of the lands coming under the ORR were perturbed over the proposed road widths and alignment changes due to pulls and pressures by politicians, realtors and landlords. Dr. Reddy said the `ever changing' HUDA plans were detrimental to interest of small, marginal and poor farmers. His party was planning a protest programme at HUDA complex in Tarnaka on January 18 to agitate against the proposals and to reduce the road width from 500 ft to 250 ft and the order banning development on either side. Former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, State president N. Indrasena Reddy, general secretary K. Laxman and others are slated to participate in the programme. As per the G.O. Ms.No. 8 issued on December 12 by the Infrastructure and Investment Department, the HUDA in December last issued notices to all panchayat secretaries within its area and also thje Collectors of Ranga Reddy and Medak about the Government ban. HUDA Vice-Chairman Jayesh Ranjan had said that special development regulations were being prepared for ORR belt and the information would be conveyed to panchayats with the necessary rules, procedures and guidelines. Mr. Ranjan directed panchayat secretaries to stop granting permissions within 1-km belt on either side till these developmental rules were received from the HUDA. Land acquisition for phase I had been completed while acquisition for the second phase was in process. The HUDA released a list of villages (see box) through which the ORR was passing and said area details would be sent later. The HUDA official warned that any deviation or violation of these instructions would be viewed seriously and action taken.
