BANGALORE: More than a thousand students from over 140 schools in the city participated in the first Classmate Young Artist 2005 annual drawing competition conducted by ITC Ltd., at the Lalbagh on Sunday. The contest was open to students from Class V to Class VIII and the theme of the competition was "Beautiful India - depicting the future (2025 AD)." The highlight of the contest was a group of children from the NGO Parikrama, who painted alongside the students from the Chitrakala Parishat. Eminent painter and muralist Gurudas Shenoy was chief guest and will lead the jury panel to decide the winner. Prizes worth Rs. 20,000 will be given away to first three toppers besides 10 consolation prizes. The results will be announced during the City finals of Classmate Young Author Contest (CYAC) 2005, to be held on January 21. The contest was introduced by ITC after the consecutive success of the event in 2003 and 2004. According to a press release, CYAC has become a mega event awaited by students across India.
