BANGALORE: Here is a chance for people to witness some of the lesser known art and craft forms from across the country at the Handicrafts Expo at Government Pre University College. Some of the exceptional crafts on display include life-like animals crafted out of leather from Indore, hand woven wall hangings made out of cotton threads from Sholapur, pine tree craft from Nainital, Uttaranchal, and crafts made from silk cocoons and bamboo craft such as cloth hangers, flower vase and mugs from Kushalnagar. The myriad and colourful craft varieties encompass the best of Indian craft traditions. They include Dhorka castings, stone carvings, palm leaf engravings and applique work from Orissa, carpets, durries, Mithila paintings, tribal jewellery, lace craft of Bihar, woollen carpets, kantha stitches of West Bengal, cane, bamboo and terracotta craft of the north eastern States, woollen shawls, paper mache from Rajasthan, colourful embroidered shawls from Jammu and Kashmir. The others on the show include Kalamkari paintings and croquet lace of Andhra Pradesh, sandalwood carvings, wood inlay, birdiware and jute craft from the State, carvings and Korai grass mats from Tamil Nadu.
