A decent fare despite some shortcomings

Director Shivaprabhu's debut film, O... Priyatamaa, is a simple, sensible and markedly decent film on the sanctity, integrity and predicament of pure love caught in the crossfire or proprieties.

Shivaprabhu delineates the otherwise serious and realistic theme in a lighter vein without making room for violence, skin show and melodrama.

His strength lies in the neat characterisation, logical screenplay, apt situations, short and communicative scenes and proportionate comedy.

A saving grace

His sense of cinematic propriety to hold both conventional and unconventional family relationships focussing parental love, ego and their moral maturity in contrast with befitting dignity and serenity save the film from falling below average.

Shortcomings such as dialogues that at times borders on preaching, want of slick editing and selection of some artistes deprive Shivaprabhu and his film a chance to assert themselves in comparative terms with many big banner films.

The story deals with the intense but unexpressed love between Yashas (Ajay) and Rashmi (Sanchana), their sudden separation even as they are thinking of expressing to each other their love and their sufferings and union.

While Ajay fits the bill as lovable son and a forlorn lover, Sharat Babu and Gita, as affable and ideal parents of the hero, excel in their performances. Chitra Shenoy despite a brief role proves her merit. Sanjana is a new comer.
