THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A warm reception will be accorded to Gajaratnam Guruvayur Padmanabhan, the famed pachyderm of Guruvayur Devaswom, here on Monday evening. Padmanabhan will be brought in a procession from Karamana junction to the eastern gate of Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple where the reception has been arranged, reception committee convener Dharmalayam Krishnan Nair said here on Sunday. Other than the police band, panchavadyam, nadaswaram and chenda melam, five caparisoned elephants will escort Padmanabhan. Various organisations will honour Padmanabhan on the way to the temple. Padmanabhan is in the capital for the first time. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, DIC(K) leader K. Karunakaran, Devaswom Minister K.C. Venugopal, Labour Minister Babu Divakaran, the former Speaker M. Vijayakumar, B. Vijyakumar, MLA, KTDC chairman Pandalam Sudhakaran and DGO Ramon Srivastava will attend the function. A music programme led by K. Omanakutty, playback singer Bhavana Radhakrishnan and Arundhati will also be held.
