ERODE: The State Government has granted Rs. 1.41 crores to the district for precision farming, said the District Collector, D. Karthikeyan, on Monday. The Horticulture Department would implement the new system for the production of hybrid vegetables, tissue banana and other horticulture crops, popularise the drip irrigation system and administer liquid fertilizers to the crops. The Collector said for the implementation of the scheme, 105 hectares would be selected and the landowner farmers will be given Rs. 1.41 crores as subsidy. Those farmers who were having 5 HP electric motor with sufficient water sources doing irrigation continuously for the last two years were eligible. The Collector said the scheme would be implemented under integrated method in Perundurai, Chennimalai, Gobichettipalayam, Ammapet, Sathyamangalam, Dharapuram and Kundadam areas. The Horticulture Department officials will select farmers on January 19 and 20 by camping in the respective panchayat union offices.
