Assembly mourns K.R Narayanan

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Assembly on Monday condoled the death of four former members, former President K.R. Narayanan and those who died in the stampede at Vysarpadi and MGR Nagar.

It also condoled the death of bus passengers washed away near Pattukottai and Thiruvadanai in the recent floods.

Speaker K. Kalimuthu commended the services of the former members — T.M. Nallasamy, V. Tamilarasu, M.K. Somasundaram and M. Annamalai — who died recently. The members observed a two-minute silence.

Mr. Kalimuthu described Narayanan as an "impartial" and "straight forward leader" with "multifarious talents," and recalled his contributions as a Foreign Service Officer and politician.

The House was later adjourned without transacting any business.
