Chief Ministers to be asked to recast rural economy

W. Chandrakanth

HYDERABAD: When the Congress Chief Ministers of 16 States converge here for a three-day All India Congress Committee plenary session later this month, reshaping rural economy will be high on their agenda.

In other words, they will be asked to put science and technology to farm-savvy applications.

The goal is to tailor their governance to sustain the Gross Domestic Product at 7 per cent as the United Progressive Alliance Government has been able to do in the last 20 months and also, if possible, to take it to 8 per cent.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Keshava Rao told The Hindu on Monday that the ball in this direction was already set rolling at the recent Science Congress held in the city by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
