NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notices to the Delhi Government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a public interest litigation seeking inquiry by the investigation agency into alleged misappropriation of about Rs. 120 crores by certain officials of the Corporation. A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma directed the respondents to file replies to the petition within four weeks and fixed the matter on April 5 for further hearing. The petitioner, Sadhana Sharma, Councillor from Burari in North-West Delhi, alleged that between the financial year 2002 and 2005, Division-VI of the Irrigation & Flood Control Department of the Delhi Government had taken up works of improvement, development of projects, construction of roads, streets and drains in the rural area of Burari. For the same work during the same period, certain MCD officials had invited tenders and awarded bogus tenders to some contractors for different amounts, the petitioner alleged. The MCD officials and the contractors were well aware that the said works had already been done by the Irrigation & Flood Control Department of the State Government, therefore, the tenders invited and awarded by MCD were on paper only, the petitioner alleged.
