Bangalore: Prime Minister of Ireland Bertie Ahern, accompanied by a major trade mission, arrived here on Monday on a six-day trip to India. The visit is seen as mainly targeted at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the information technology and education sectors. On arrival, he said Ireland has had long and friendly diplomatic relations with India and hoped to build political, cultural and business ties. ``Hopefully, over this week, my colleagues and a very large delegation from Ireland will be able to develop the relations. We very much look forward to the visit,'' Mr. Ahern told presspersons. He is accompanied by the Ministers for Enterprise, Education, and Arts and Sport and Tourism besides business representatives. Mr. Ahern is scheduled to visit the corporate headquarters here of NASDAQ-listed Infosys Technologies, New York Stock Exchange-listed Wipro and biotech major Biocon during the three-day stay here. The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) will sign a "Charter of Best Practice" in credit risk management and debt recovery. PTI
