STANDING FIRM: CPI(M) State secretary B. V. Raghavlulu addressing a meeting on Velugonda at Kanigiri in Prakasam district on monday.
ONGOLE: CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu has found fault with the Government for serving defamation notice on him for alleging corruption in irrigation projects. Speaking to newspersons at Podili on Monday, Mr. Raghavulu said it was not politically correct for the Government to issue legal notices to political leaders. He asserted that the CPI(M) would fight it out. He said that he had made certain observations regarding corruption in irrigation projects on the basis of information given to him by some individuals and organisations. The Government should have accepted the criticism and set right the defects, if any, in the system. But the Government chose to issue him defamation notice which he received on Sankranthi. He said that he had received the court notice in the name of Irrigation Secretary, Sarma. Mr. Raghavulu wondered whether he had the permission of the Irrigation Minister or Chief Minister before issuing the notice to him. Saying that he had not read the notice completely, Mr. Raghavulu made it clear that the CPI(M) would meet the threat. He ridiculed the State Government for issuing him a defamation notice at a time when the Central Government cleared Khatrochi of corruption charges.
