Tarun Sagar muni reaches Shravanabelagola after a 65-day trek

SHRAVANABELAGOLA: Well-known Jain muni Tarun Sagar reached Shravanabelagola on Monday after a 65-day trek from Belgaum. He was welcomed by a group of Jain monks at Tyagi Nagar on the outskirts of the pilgrim town and was taken to the mutt premises in a colourful procession with "Mangala Kalashas." His arrival infused new enthusiasm and colour to the Mahamastakabhisheka celebrations, which will commence from January 22.

Later addressing a huge gathering, the Jain muni said that though he had no plans to visit Shravanabelagola this time, he decided to come because he could not resist the magnetic attraction of Bahubali.

Terming Bahubali as the greatest Jain saint, he said that the ideals for which the former stood for was more relevant to the present day society, which had become corrupted.

Talking about the arrival of more than a hundred Jain munis from different parts of north India to Shravanabelagola, Tarun Sagar muni said it was the magnetism of Bahubali that attracted them. "Acharyas are like rivers, and all rivers have come to converge at the feet of Bahubali, the

serene ocean of peace, love and enlightenment," he noted. Commending the contribution of Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji, pontiff of Shravanabelagola, he described him as a social scientist in the garb of a muni.

Speaking on the occasion, Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji said it was an honour to have a person like Tarun Sagar muni among the 133 monks who have come to Shravanabelagola for the Mahamastakabhisheka.

He also said that though Tarun Sagar muni was known for his fiery addresses he was a soft person and full of love.

Acharya108 Vardhaman Sagar Maharaj and Acharya 108 Virajanandi Maharaja also spoke. Working President, Mahamastakabhisheka Committee, A.R. Nirmal Kumar and other functionaries were present.
