Thieves gain entry into the house by breaking open the rear door

CHENNAI: Thieves broke into a house in Tiruvanmiyur on Sunday and took away 37 sovereigns of jewellery.

According to police, burglars entered the house of Joseph on Pillayar Koil Street, when the inmates were away. Mr. Joseph's family, which went out around 4.30 p.m., found the house broken into and jewellery stolen when they returned around 9.30 p.m.

Police said the intruders gained entry into the house by breaking open the rear side door. Tiruvanmiyur police have registered a case and are investigating.

Fire in godown

A fire broke out in an electrical parts godown in Broadway on Monday destroying switches, boards and wiring materials.

Fire Service officials said they were informed of the fire on Varadha Muthiappa Street around 8.45 a.m.

Three fire tenders were pressed into service and they brought the fire under control in about half-an-hour.

An electrical short circuit in the shop caused the fire, said the Fire and Rescue Service personnel.
