Seminar on aquaculture

The Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, is conducting a training programme from January 18 to 24 on "Commercial aquaculture with respect to farming systems in Andhra Pradesh" for the benefit of officials attending the programme from various fisheries departments and also from other interested entrepreneurs, said Dr. P. Kumaraiah, officer in charge of the institute. The inaugural session would be held on January 18 at Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education. Renowned professor and scientist Dr V.S. Rama Das of Sri Venkateswara University would inaugurate the programme. Dr Kiochu Babu, director, NRC Oil Palm, Pedavegi (WG dist), would preside over the function.

Bank revises interest rates

Central Bank of India has announced a revision in the interest rates on FCNR-B, RFC and NRE deposits from January 1, said bank's regional manager G. B. Murthy here on Monday. Except for deposits denominated in Great Britain Pound and Australian Dollar (except for maturity period of one year to less than two years), the bank has hiked interest rates on deposits for all maturities denominated in USD, EUR and Canadian dollar. Interest rate on deposit denominated in Australian dollar for maturity period of one year to less than two years has also been hiked. Revised rate of interest on US Dollar denominated deposit has been hiked to 4.59 per cent, 4.64 per cent, 4.63 per cent, 4.64 per cent and 4.65 per cent for maturity periods of one year to less than 2 years, 2 years to less than 3 years, 3 years to less than 4 years and 4 years and less than 5 years respectively.

Training programme

Jan Shikshan Sansthan, an NGO sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, is organising a six-week training programme for prospective women entrepreneurs from February 1, said institute's director Vidyakanna here on Monday. Women in the age group of 18-40, with SSC qualification, are eligible for the training programme. For more information contact 0866-2470420.

`Remarks' flayed

Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi district secretary Yasu Madiga on Monday took objection to the `remarks' on Madigas by Minister for Animal Husbandry Gollapalli Surya Rao and demanded his expulsion from the ministry. He said comments made by the Minister were causing rift between Malas and Madigas and asked the Congress leaders to desist from making unwarranted comments on Madigas.

Trade fair

Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner Natarajan Gulzar on Monday said that an industrial exhibition would be organised at Swaraj Maidan during Krishna Mahostav to be held from January 27 to 30.

He said those traders and businessmen keen on setting up their shops in the fair should pay Rs 2000 through demand draft to VMC's Urban Community Development officers at the corporation.
