Government committed to establishing the film city: Shivaram

BANGALORE: A meeting convened by the Government to discuss the problems of Kannada cinema industry failed to arrive at a consensus over the "long pending issue" whether remake films should be also considered for the annual subsidy as a majority participants protested against the Government's reported move to encourage remakes at the cost of "original culture and taste."

However, Minister for Information and Publicity B. Shivaram, who chaired the meeting held here on Monday, said that the Government will take a decision on the issue shortly.

On the long pending issue of establishing film city at Hesaraghatta, for which the Government has earmarked over 300 acres, Mr. Shivaram reiterated that the Government is committed to establish the film city as suggested by the V.N. Subba Rao committee decades ago, with modifications.

President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce H.D. Gangaraj, president of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce K.C.N. Chandrashekhar, producers Parvathamma Rajkumar and B.N. Gangadhar, artiste MLC Mukhyamantri Chandru, Jayamala, and H.G. Dattatreya participated.
