Toyota Kirloskar management decides to continue lock-out

`No question of keeping the dismissals of employees in abeyance'

Bangalore: The management of Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Monday presented its case at the reconciliation meeting organised by the Labour Commissioner, after studying the proposal made by the employees' union and decided to continue with the lock-out till a more conducive atmosphere emerges.

In its reply to the charges of employees, and to the Labour Commissioner, the management said that the dismissals are after thorough legal process following the principle of natural justice. An independent enquiry was held, and the charges were proved beyond reasonable doubt. Therefore there is no question of keeping the dismissals in abeyance as demanded by the union, it said.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor also communicated its inability to lift the lockout in the existing circumstances of violence where non-striking workmen and their families are threatened following the mass scale violence and threat to blow up the LPG tanks last weekend.

"The atmosphere is still grave, tense and there is no safety for non-striking team members and company's property. The company requested the Labour Commissioner's office to advice the union to stop violence, threats and restore normality and discipline without any preconditions," sources said.

Currently, the union is organising agitations outside the company premises.

They are also forcing non-striking team members to join the agitation under threat of physical violence.

The lifting of the lockout would mean a repeat of the violence engaged by striking workers, the management representatives said.
