Lokayukta traps three officials

Two engineers, one revenue official allegedly caught accepting bribe

BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Monday nabbed two officials of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited and a revenue official on charges of demanding and accepting money for rendering official favour. The police recovered Rs. 85,000 from the three officials.

The Lokayukta police gave the names of the officials as Bhairalingaiah, Assistant Executive Engineer, BESCOM's Malur Sub-Division, Kolar; Nagaraj, Junior Engineer, BESCOM's Kalasipalya Sub-division; and T.C. Tandava Murthy, Tahsildhar, Bangalore East taluk.

According to Lokayukta police, Amzad Pasha, an Electrical contractor, had taken up the work of electricity installation work of a factory in Malur Industrial Area. He approached Bhairalingaiah for granting electricity connection for which the official demanded Rs. 20,000. Bhairalingaiah was reportedly caught while allegedly accepting the amount.

In another case, Jagadish, another contractor, approached Nagaraj for a similar favour, for which the latter allegedly demanded Rs. 15,000. The Lokayukta police laid a trap and caught Nagaraj.

In the third case Gangadhar, residing near Kidney Hospital, had a dispute related to his land in Byrathi village. On being asked by the Hennur police, Gangadhar approached Tandava Murthy for re-assessment of boundaries. For this the revenue official allegedly demanded Rs. 50,000. Tandava Murthy was caught while allegedly accepting the amount.
