HYDERABAD: Kesavananda Krishna Chitrada became the first Indian to be bestowed the title of FIDE Trainer at the Singapore International Chess Convention held in the island state recently, according to information received here. The Vijayawada native received the citation after the weeklong seminar conducted by Grandmaster Zurab Azmaiparashvili of Georgia, vice-president of FIDE and Senior FIDE Trainer, and Grandmaster Yury Razuvaev of Russia, Chairman of FIDE Trainers Committee and Senior FIDE Trainer at the Royal Hotel. Ten participants were shortlisted for the same title and two for the FIDE Instructor tag among delegates hailing from Russia, Korea, the Philippines and Vietnam and other nations. Each of the participants presented a thesis, which he or she defended in critical analysis by the gathering. Stress on classical and end game training for children, using computers only for analysis and not relying on it for good moves and scientific training methods were some of the topics discussed in great depth. Krishna, currently a coach with the Asean Chess Academy, the only FIDE-accredited institution of its kind in Asia, has sharpened the skills of world under-14 runner-up Gogineni Rohit, Asian under- 14 champion D. Sai Srinivas, FIDE Master K. Nikhilesh Kumar, International Woman Master Kruttika Nadig and two-time Asian under-10 winner P.L. Sahiti.
