AITUC workers to stage black flag demonstrations at venue of public functions Crisis in agriculture sector has rendered thousands jobless, says Anjelose Government trying to sell public sector Scotters Kerala, he adds
ALAPPUZHA: The AITUC district committee will boycott the public functions of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and four other Ministers of the State Cabinet in the district from March 1 in protest against the failure of the Government to tackle the crisis in the industrial sector in the district. AITUC district secretary T.J. Anjelose made the announcement on Monday at a press conference here. He added that the AITUC would also boycott Coir Minister K.R. Gouri, Fisheries Minister Dominic Presentation, Industries Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju and Labour Minister Babu Divakaran.
Demonstrations
Mr. Anjelose also said that the AITUC workers would stage black flag demonstrations at the venue of the public functions of the said Ministers in the district. Mr. Anjelose added that a majority of the big industries in the public and private sector in the district had been closed down. The workers of the public sector Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. had not received their salary since 2003, said Mr. Anjelose. The Pallipuram sand brick factory and the Kerala Spinners at Komalapuram here had been shut down, he said. The other industries in the district that had been going through a crisis included the Chengannur Central Hatchery and the Autocast Cherthala. He said that the Government was now trying to sell the public sector Scooters Kerala in the district. Mr. Anjelose alleged that Ms. Gouri had mismanaged the funds allotted by the Union Government for the development of the coir industry in the district. The crisis in the agriculture sector had rendered thousands jobless, he added. Instead of initiating steps to revive the industry and agriculture sector, the State Government preferred to ignore the crisis, said Mr. Anjelose.
